Reinforcing Lower A-arms

If you are going to hop your car at all it is a very good idea to reinforce your lower A-arms. This prevents the springs from pushing through the control arm when hopping. Control arms are very weak on most cars because they are made from stamped steel. This is a fairly easy job granted you are mechanically inclined and have a few basic tools for metal working.

Above: A template is made from poster board or card board of the part you want to reinforce.

Above: The template is traced out on a sheet of 1/4 inch steel and cut out. A plasma cutter makes nice clean cuts

Above: The reinforcement is put in place and checked for fit. Here it is marked to be trimmed a little more to fit perfectly.

Above: Here it is before being welded in place.

Above: A plate is welded to the bottom of the spring cup of the lower arm to keep the spring where it belongs.
